Balikpapan, 17 June 2014: DHL Express, the world’s leading express and logistics provider expands its business through a state of the art facility in Balikpapan. The new facility has the capacity to handle more than 4 million kilos per year, and aims at accommodating Balikpapan’s future economic growth.
Yasmin Aladad Khan, DHL Express Senior Vice President, South East Asia and South Asia said, “Indonesia is a key pillar in supporting South East Asia’s economic growth, in which Balikpapan plays a major role. This investment with improved handling capacity will enable us to fully support economic growth in Balikpapan and the rest of Kalimantan.”
DHL Express, being the largest express operator in Kalimantan is now operating its new facility of 1,450 sqm and supported by more than 50 employees. Since commencing operations in 1985, DHL Express has invested in a dedicated B737 freighter from Singapore to Balikpapan vice versa with a total capacity of 16 tons per flight.
Facility includes world class features such as motorized conveyor, re-weighing and dimensioning system, 58 CCTV cameras and an access control system to ensure safety and security of our customers’ shipments. This facility is equipped with a bonded area, in-house customs and X-ray machine which would minimize physical inspection. Located in Jalan Sudirman of Balikpapan, the facility also has a Service Point to accommodate retail customers in Balikpapan.

Balikpapan has been known to be the home of the mining and oil & gas industry. This industry has contributed over US$ 2.36 billion* to the local revenue. The existence of mining, oil & gas companies, has created demands for supporting products such as heavy equipment, hence this strengthens the need to invest more in Kalimantan.

We are the first international express operator in Balikpapan.
